From 2006 - 2009, Dr. Ruta Valaitis was a member of the Advisory Committee for the design and development of an Orientation Program for new nurses transitioning into public health careers.

The orientation package was developed with funding from HealthForceOntario through the Nursing Secretariat. The funding was sought through the leadership of Algoma Public Health and Ontario Association of Public Health Nursing Leaders ANDSOOHA: Public Health Nursing Management. The Ontario Association of Public Health Nursing Leaders (OPHNL- formerly known as ANDSOOHA) is a part of the collective voice, shaping and enhancing public health nursing administration and practice.
